Book Talk Tools:

This page contains a number of book talk tools. During our veteran teacher training in November, the veteran teachers wrote questions that may be used during book talks to help facilitate the conversation around specific genres. There are questions for 21 different fiction genres and five different non-fiction genres. In addition, there are questions developed to probe students' use of proficient reader strategies.
You may wish to keep these forms in a folder so that when you have a book talk with a student, you have easy access to questions that will facilitate great discussions with students. Another idea is to print these questions on colored card stock or colored paper and post them in your room so that students may also begin thinking about your discussion during the book talk.

The "Book Talk Evaluation" form that appears on this page is designed to be used by the Teacher as you are having the book talk with students.

Special thanks to all the veteran teachers for their assistance with these questions. Also special thanks to our colleagues in AEA 267 for the genre descriptions and other book talk templates provided.
